"They were happy from day one-enjoyed their counselors, made new friends, had fun, and want to come back! Wyatt has already started talking about becoming a GIT, and on Friday night as he was going to bed said he didn't realize how much he was going to miss everyone."
Two main reasons: acclimation and scaffolding
In our experience, most campers initially take time to warm-up to camp. This gives campers and staff an opportunity to acclimate, nurture connection, and discover ease and joy within the camp flow.
Plus, as a project-based camp, we scaffold/build on our activities so that campers collaborate and invest in a project over the two-weeks.
Robots Hybrid Team
Robots is a special camper Team of older youth that stays primarily together throughout the camp day.
Our 5th-8th graders are on the cusp-- ready for more advanced projects and that elusive "VIP" feeling around camp.
Jr. GIT experience
We've created an opportunity for those older campers that express interest in exploring a leadership role at Camp
During any of the 3 Elective Periods, Robots can choose to instead join the Jr. GIT crew. We match the specific role to the Robot's interest- be that supporting their favorite elective, doing special projects in the Camp Office, or shadowing our Camp Coordinators around camp!
Kids shape their Wildfolk experience by choosing 3 electives:
something active, creative, and brainy each day
Robots have a choice: they can join electives open to other campers or stay on a Robots specialty project.
Families will be emailed the Elective Packet closer to the start of camp and instructions for submitting the Elective Choice Form.
Collaborative Team Projects
Robots collaborate all session to create a themed project for the big Jubilee on the last day of the session (think: cardboard carnival or a more spirited science fair)
Our Guides support campers from all steps in the planning process, but campers truly take the lead on brainstorming, choosing roles, problem-solving, designing, producing, and then running the booth
Old School Campy Fun
We hear from parents a lot that Wildfolk reminds them of the camps they went to as a kid
We infuse a lot of traditions and rituals from camps our staff attended as kids...Morning Ceremony with camp songs & team challenges, a huge Water Day that feels like backyard Hurricane Harbor, huge camp games played with the entire camp, themed Funky FriYAY surprises that encompass the magic of summer, Where's Winston/Winnie Fox, Lip Sync Battles, etc
We bring Robots behind-the-scenes a bit, encouraging their help with some of the magic-making. They seem to love passing on the traditions to the next generation.
Camp Wildfolk is what childhood summer joy should feel like- wild & free!
What Folks Are Sayin...
While my daughter has enjoyed other day camps that have a single focus per week she responded to Camp Wildfolk in a completely different way. Instead of coming home and asking for screen time she worked on art projects. In fact, she had a burst of creativity that has not yet let up!
“THANK YOU for a really wonderful experience. Both boys had a fantastic time this summer - F looked forward to going to camp every day (this is a very big deal for him- he is still very much a homebody, and so it was amazing how into camp he was. I was so happy and relieved), and O was super excited to have his Jr. G.I.T. moment! I really appreciate how much you care about the kids, and how much attention you pay to every little detail of a great camp experience. We love Camp Wildfolk!
My children aged 12, 10 & 7 all loved it. The Director and counselors are all the best. When you're looking for a place for the summer for your kids it's not easy to please all of them. We're so happy we enrolled in Camp Wildfolk
